OUR HISTORY

The Marina Velca Golf Club boasts a history of over 50 years, and over time its 9 holes have welcomed royalty, captains of industry, and famous singers — all drawn by its location, its sunny climate, and a region rich with more than 3,000 years of history.

The golf course is located on a hillside within the Pian di Spille residential area, close to the sea and the valley of the Marta River. It lies near the border with Tuscany, close to the port of Civitavecchia and the city of Viterbo, and is connected by highway to Rome and Fiumicino Airport.

From the course, players can admire the view of the medieval towers and walls of the city of Tarquinia, and one of its holes was built near ancient Etruscan tombs that were naturally discovered on the site.

Among holm oaks, pines, eucalyptus trees, and other species typical of Mediterranean vegetation, it’s easy along the course to be accompanied bythe northern bald ibis which is considered a sacred bird of theupupa, of black-winged stilt, of swans and other bird species, thanks also to the proximity of the Tarquinia Salt Pans and the Orbetello Lagoon.

Corporate developments and the natural evolution of this sport have led the club to begin writing the third chapter of its history. The first course, designed by Rodolfo Russo in the late 1960s, was a 9-hole par-3 layout with double tees. In the 1980s, Italian champion Ugo Grappasonni redesigned the 9 holes to create the current course. In the summer of 2020, the golf club underwent a rebranding, and a new company took over its management.

The new logo is meant to reflect the club’s geographical location near the sea, set on a generous stretch of rolling land. The light colors symbolize the sun that constantly bathes it in light, while the name itself is rooted in ancient Etruscan history, recalling the legendary maiden Velka.

Whether you’re a professional golfer or have never held a club before, whether you’re an enthusiastic fan who follows the great champions on TV or have no idea what golf is, whether you want to add a sporting stop to your leisure or cultural vacation…

We are waiting for you!
